Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for a leading automotive supplier in George, Western Cape. You will design and develop mechanical components and subsystems, from concept to prototyping, using 3D CAD and engineering analysis.

In this hybrid role, you will run stress, thermal, and vibration simulations, prepare drawings and BOMs, and collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, quality, and purchasing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3–7 years of mechanical design experience in automotive.
• Proficient in 3D CAD (CATIA/SolidWorks) and FEA.
• Knowledge of automotive standards and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and systems for automotive applications using 3D CAD.
• Perform stress, thermal, and vibration simulations to validate designs.
• Create drawings, BOMs, and specifications for manufacturing.
• Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, quality assurance, and purchasing.
• Support prototyping, conduct performance tests, and refine designs.
• Ensure designs comply with ISO and SAE standards and customer requirements.
• Troubleshoot design issues during development and mass production.
• Participate in design reviews and present concepts to team and management.
