Job summary

IntelliStaff is seeking a Workshop Supervisor in the Denver/JHB area to oversee daily workshop operations for diesel mechanics and technicians. The role requires strong supervision, a hands-on leadership approach, and experience with trailers or heavy vehicles.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 / Matric is required.
• Qualified Diesel Mechanic is required.
• Previous supervisory or management experience within a workshop environment.
• Experience working with trailers and/or heavy vehicles is essential.

Responsibilities

• Support the Workshop Manager with day-to-day running of the workshop.
• Allocate and coordinate daily work for mechanics, technicians and workshop assistants.
• Oversee vehicle servicing, repairs and preventative maintenance.
• Monitor job progress and ensure work is completed within agreed timeframes.
• Prioritise urgent repairs and breakdowns based on operational requirements.
• Inspect completed work before vehicles are released from the workshop.
• Help manage workflow to minimise vehicle downtime.
• Conduct regular inspections of workshop activities and completed repairs.
• Ensure vehicle services and inspections are completed according to manufacturer requirements.
• Review vehicle defects and take corrective action.
• Identify recurring mechanical issues and recommend solutions.
• Maintain accurate vehicle maintenance records and histories.
• Monitor fleet availability and elevate vehicles off-road when needed.
• Supervise, support and guide workshop staff.
• Allocate duties based on skills and workload.

Administration & Reporting

• Maintain accurate workshop records, job cards and maintenance documentation.
• Track vehicle downtime and maintenance turnaround times.
• Keep accurate records of servicing, repairs, inspections and breakdowns.
• Provide management with regular updates on workshop performance and fleet availability.
