Job summary

andBeyond is seeking a Maintenance Manager for Phinda Private Game Reserve. This permanent live-in role requires overseeing lodge and staff village maintenance, plus on-site project execution and supplier management.

You will drive preventative maintenance, manage annual CAPEX budgeting, and lead a team of trades while coordinating with lodge and operations managers. Based at Phinda with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of maintenance management experience in a similar operation.
• Qualified in electrical (single and three phase), refrigeration or air-conditioning.
• Experience in plumbing, sewage treatment systems, water treatment, building and general maintenance.
• Valid unendorsed SA driver's license is essential.

Responsibilities

• Advise on maintenance for lodges, staff villages and reserve, including preventative and daily breakdown maintenance.
• Guide budgeting processes for monthly maintenance budgets and annual CAPEX budgets.
• Communicate with lodge-managers daily on maintenance needs and report project progress.
• Oversee administration and financial processes relating to maintenance including ordering, issuing and stock control.
• Train plumbers, carpenters, wiremen, painters and general maintenance staff.
• Participate in HR processes for hiring new staff as required by HR Manager or General Managers.
• Negotiate with suppliers and deploy permanent maintenance staff at Phinda.
• Manage complete site-building, renovation operations and potential large contractor presence.
• Design, construct and maintain water purification systems and grey water treatment plants.
• Handle plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, building and general maintenance tasks.
• Support IT network infrastructure maintenance and ensure clear feedback loops with managers.
• Hold regular meetings with camp and operations managers and ensure teamwork.
• Lead sustainability initiatives, including energy-saving projects and water conservation.
