Job summary

Octotel is seeking a field technician in George, South Africa to prepare sites, install fibre network infrastructure and equipment per site plans. You will manage tools, stock, and assist teams with equipment, while learning from experienced technicians in a fast-paced environment.

The role involves heavy lifting and delivering supplies; good IT/telecoms background and CFOT certification are advantageous. Medical aid and wellness programs are offered.

Qualifications

• Tertiary IT or telecoms qualification preferred.
• 1 year experience in fibre splicing/installations.
• CFOT certificate advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and clean the site.
• Install network infrastructure and equipment as per site plan.
• Manage electrical and hand tool inventory.
• Deliver and distribute supplies (heavy lifting).
• Assist workers with equipment.
• Assemble/disassemble equipment.
• Learn new skills from experienced technicians.
• Monitor and maintain stock.

Job Duties:

• Prepping and cleaning the site.
• Install the network infrastructure and equipment as per site plan.
• Responsible for the electrical and hand tool inventory to be used.
• Delivering and distributing supplies (expect some heavy lifting).
• Assisting workers with Equipment.
• Assembling and disassembling equipment.
• Learning new skills from experienced Technicians.
• Monitor and maintain stock.
• And any other reasonable task.

Requirements

• Tertiary level IT or Telecommunications qualification is preferred
• 1 years' experience performing fibre splicing and/or installations.
• A CFOT certificate is advantageous
• Experience using power-tools.
