Job summary

Ideal candidates have 2+ years in fibre installation or maintenance, a Code B license, and a willingness to travel. The role involves preventive checks, stock management, and after-hours support as needed.

Qualifications

• Valid Driver’s License (Code B) and own reliable transport.
• Willingness to travel between regions and work on a rotating standby schedule.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in installation of fibre network infrastructure and equipment per site plan.
• Monitor and maintain stock for installation teams.

Where will the position fit in?

We are looking for a flexible and skilled Floating Technician to support fibre network operations across multiple areas and teams. This role requires a technician who can adapt quickly, respond to network incidents, and assist with installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting wherever needed. You will play a key role in maintaining service quality and supporting high-demand regions.

Job Duties:

• Assist in the installation of network infrastructure and equipment as per site plan.
• Monitor and maintain boot stock for installation team vehicles.
• Responsible for the electrical and hard tool inventory to be used for site installations.
• Adhere to standard health and safety regulations.
• Provide technical support across various teams and areas based on operational needs.
• Perform fibre splicing, testing, and fault-finding to restore connectivity.
• Support fibre installations for residential, business, and backhaul clients.
• Respond to network outages and service disruptions across multiple zones.
• Conduct preventive maintenance checks on fibre infrastructure.
• Collaborate with route teams, NOC, and contractors to ensure network uptime.
• Maintain accurate records of work completed and update relevant systems.
• Assist with emergency call-outs and after-hours support as needed.
• Ensure all work is completed according to health, safety, and quality standards.

Requirements

• Matric Certificate (Grade 12).
• Proven experience in cable floating, installation, or related cable work.
• Familiarity with cable blowing machines, compressors, and hand/power tools.
• Valid Driver’s License (Code B) and own reliable transport.
• 2+ years of experience in fibre installation, splicing, or maintenance.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Willingness to travel between regions and work on a rotating standby schedule.
• Excellent communication, time management, and adaptability.
• Ability to work independently and in diverse environments.
• Physical ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Will be required to assist with minor Operations related tasks.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with fiber optic cable handling and installation.
• Knowledge of cable test equipment (e.g., OTDR and DIT).
• Basic knowledge of network systems and infrastructure.
