Job summary

Placements24 presents an Apprentice Chef (Commis Chef) opportunity with a prestigious hospitality group in Sandton, Gauteng. This apprenticeship provides formal culinary training, hands-on kitchen experience, and exposure to high-volume, quality-focused operations under Head Chefs and Sous Chefs.

Candidates will learn cooking fundamentals, food safety, mise en place, and plating while developing a professional palate.

Qualifications

• Must have completed matriculation or an equivalent qualification.
• Willingness to learn under senior kitchen staff.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Must reside in or be able to commute to Sandton, Gauteng, and be legally eligible to work in South Africa.

Responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients according to recipes and established standards.
• Assist in the cooking and plating of various menu items under supervision.
• Learn and practice proper food handling, storage, and sanitation techniques.
• Maintain a clean and organized workstation and kitchen environment.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
• Support senior chefs with mise en place tasks.
• Contribute to maintaining the high standards of food quality and presentation.
• Learn about different cooking methods, cuisines, and culinary techniques.
• Assist in receiving and storing food supplies.
• Participate in team meetings and contribute positively to kitchen operations.
