Job summary

EdUpStairs is seeking a plumber with Grade 12 and a plumbing trade certificate for on-site maintenance roles in KwaZulu-Natal. The role requires a valid Code 8/10 driver’s license and the ability to work independently, including overtime when needed.

Responsibilities include installing and repairing geysers, toilets, urinals, and sewerage systems, taking daily water readings, and maintaining safety practices in line with OH&S standards within health facility settings.

Qualifications

• Requires Grade 12 or equivalent and a plumbing trade certificate.
• Experience varies by Artisan grade; Grade A: 0–2 years, Grade B: 14+ years in plumbing.
• Must have a valid driver’s license (Code 8/10).
• Safety knowledge and adherence to OHS standards.
• Proficient in recording water readings and reporting.
• Ability to train subordinates and work overtime when required.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair and maintain geysers (high and low pressure).
• Install/repair toilets, urinals, showers and baths.
• Repair water sewerage reticulation systems and clear blocked drains.
• Take daily water supply readings and report faults.
• Maintain fire hose main supply readings and complete job cards.
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team in hospitals/clinics and attend safety training.

Job description

Grade 12 (senior certificate) N3/NQL 3.
Passing a trade test in plumbing in terms of section (1 392) of the manpower training act 1981, as amended.
Artisan Grade A: 0-2 years’ experience in plumbing field.
Artisan Grade B: At least 14 years’ appropriate/recognizable experience in an area after obtaining the relevant trade certificate.
Valid driver’s license.
NB: work experience (certificate of service) endorsed by HR Office.
Valid driver’s license Code 8/ 10.
Certificate in Records Management.
Knowledge, Skill, Training and Competencies Required: Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety and safety standards.
Knowledge of basic maintenance and repair of broken pipes.
Knowledge of safety systems of work.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to work under pressure.
Good communication skills (both verbal and written).
Knowledge of Batho Pele principles.

Duties

• Installation, Repairs and maintenance of high pressure and low-pressure geyser.
• Installation and repairs to toilets, urinals and other ablution facilities such as shower and baths.
• Etc. Installation and repair to water sewerage reticulation system.
• Clear blocked drains, guttery, down pipes, wastewater lines and branch lines.
• Take and record water supply readings daily.
• Maintenance on fire hose main supply readings daily.
• Daily reporting fault, job progress and daily completion of job card/time sheets as per auditor’s instruction Be prepared to visit primary health care clinics to perform maintenance duties when required.
• Installation of gutter and down pipes and galvanized pipes.
• Compile and submit reports, provide input on the compilation of technical report.
• From part of multi-disciplinary team doing rounds in the hospital and clinics and necessary steps to fix all identified shortfalls.
• Be prepared to work overtime and standby duties.
• To take responsibility for inhouse training and advancement of subordinates.
• To perform standby duties and after-hours call outs.
• Keep an up to date and current equipment register.
• Be responsible for materials issued and completing job cards.
• Always adhere to safe working practices (in accordance to the O.H. & S ACT85/1993).
• Daily reporting fault progress and daily completion of job cards/time sheets as per auditor’s instructions.
• Job cards for completed work must be signed by the department concerned and list material used.
• Attend safety and practical orientated training courses and lectures.
• To perform standby duties and afterhours call outs.
• These duties at times can include the duties associated with other trade such as the fitter, plumber the carpenter.
• Work overtime with remuneration when considering and with the approval of the maintenance supervisor must be prepared, at times of crisis, to perform other essential services such as strikes, floods etc.viz.
• Maintenance oriented duties.
