Job summary

EdUpStairs is seeking a maintenance worker to support hospital building upkeep in George, Western Cape. The role involves minor repairs, preventive maintenance, and assisting qualified artisans with a range of trades.

The incumbent will perform plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting and related tasks, prepare work areas, and ensure safe use of hand and power tools. Valid driver’s licence and ability to handle physical labour are essential.

Qualifications

• Grade 10 or equivalent is required.
• Valid Code B/EB/C1 driver’s licence.
• Ability to perform heavy physical labour.
• Willingness to standby and work overtime.
• Basic technical and maintenance knowledge.
• Ability to follow technical instructions and work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform minor maintenance and repairs to hospital buildings, infrastructure, fixtures, fittings and equipment.
• Assist with plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting, glazing, mechanical and general building maintenance activities.
• Assist Artisans with repairs, installations, alterations, preventative maintenance and minor infrastructure projects.
• Prepare work areas, tools, equipment and materials; assist with dismantling, installation and movement of equipment.

Job description

Minimum educational qualification: Grade 10 (or equivalent).
Experience: Appropriate experience in general building maintenance, minor repairs and/or
assisting Artisans with maintenance activities in a building, institutional or similar environment.
Inherent requirements of the job: Valid Code B/EB/C1 driver’s licence.
Ability to perform heavy physical labour.
Available to perform standby and overtime duties.
Competencies (knowledge/skills): Basic technical and maintenance knowledge.
Ability to perform minor maintenance and repair work and safely use hand and power tools.
Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements and safe working practices.
Good practical problemsolving skills, technical aptitude and attention to detail.
