Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled Air Traffic Controller to manage tower operations at our client’s facility in Tembisa, Gauteng. The role requires exceptional situational awareness, sound decision-making under pressure, and a commitment to aviation safety across hybrid on-site and remote administrative tasks.

The successful candidate will coordinate takeoffs and landings, monitor radar and communications, and maintain strict regulatory compliance while working within a dynamic team environment.

Qualifications

• Valid Air Traffic Controller license
• Experience in tower control operations at a comparable airport
• Ability to make rapid, critical decisions under pressure
• Fluency in English and strong communication skills
• Proficiency with air traffic control systems, radar displays and comms equipment

Responsibilities

• Control and manage all aircraft movements within the airport's airspace, including takeoffs, landings, and ground movements.
• Issue clearances, advisories, and information to pilots to ensure safe separation of aircraft and avoid collisions.
• Monitor air traffic using radar, visual observation, and other surveillance systems.
• Coordinate with other ATC units, airline operations, and emergency services.
• Maintain awareness of weather, airport status, and potential hazards and respond to emergencies as needed.
• Ensure adherence to national and international ATC regulations and procedures.
• Operate and maintain communications and surveillance equipment.
• Conduct routine checks and provide feedback on airspace design and procedures.
• Stay updated on aviation best practices and regulatory changes.
