Requires SA CAA ATC licences with aerodrome/approach ratings, accredited ATC training, and at least 3 years of active ATC experience. Shifts rotate, including nights and holidays, with a strong emphasis on safety and professionalism.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Control and manage air traffic in the airport vicinity and surrounding airspace.
• Maintain safe separation between aircraft on ground and in the air.
• Issue clearances, advisories, and instructions to pilots.
• Monitor radar displays and surveillance systems.
• Communicate clearly with pilots and other units.
• Oversee airport surface movements including taxiing aircraft.
• Respond to emergencies following established procedures.
• Maintain high situational awareness at all times.
• Review performance and adherence to procedures.
• Support continuous improvement within the ATC unit.

About the Role

Our client, a major airport authority serving the Centurion, Gauteng region, is seeking a vigilant and highly responsible Air Traffic Controller to manage tower operations. This crucial role ensures the safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of air traffic within the airport's airspace. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining separation between aircraft, issuing clearances, and providing essential flight information to pilots. This is a high-pressure, dynamic position within the aviation industry, demanding exceptional concentration, rapid decision-making, and a deep understanding of aviation procedures. You will be at the forefront of ensuring the seamless operation of one of the busiest airspaces in the region, contributing directly to the safety of thousands of passengers daily. Key Responsibilities

• Control and manage air traffic in the airport vicinity and associated airspace.
• Ensure safe separation between aircraft on the ground and in the air.
• Issue clearances, advisories, and instructions to pilots.
• Monitor radar displays, flight progress strips, and other surveillance systems.
• Communicate effectively with pilots, airline operations, and other air traffic control units.
• Manage airport surface movements, including taxiing aircraft and ground vehicles.
• Respond to and manage emergencies and unusual situations according to established protocols.
• Maintain a high level of situational awareness at all times.
• Conduct regular reviews of performance and adherence to procedures.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the air traffic control unit.

Requirements

• Valid SA CAA Air Traffic Controller Licence with Aerodrome Control and Approach Control ratings.
• Successful completion of an accredited Air Traffic Control training program.
• Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in an active air traffic control role.
• Excellent knowledge of aviation regulations, ICAO standards, and local ATC procedures.
• Proven ability to remain calm, focused, and make critical decisions under pressure.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with clear and concise speech.
• Excellent vision and hearing capabilities, meeting stringent medical standards.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
• High level of integrity and responsibility.
• Proficiency in English.
