Responsibilities

Plans, coordinates, and assigns efficient work schedules and duties to employees, including supervising and approving staff time and attendance records.
Supervises and evaluates custodians' performance through regular and random reviews.
In consultation with the Assistant Director, addresses performance concerns with coaching and records.
Regularly inspects buildings for cleanliness, repairs, and safety, reporting issues promptly.
Supervises cleanup during severe weather, including snow removal.
Supports University events that may occur on weekends, such as Commencement and Open Houses.
Enforces safety rules and reports safety concerns within the zone.
Ensures work orders are completed and reports are prepared as requested.
Reviews upcoming events and coordinates with staff for setup needs.
Onboards new employees and trains ongoing custodial procedures and equipment usage.

Job Purpose

A Zone Supervisor provides direct oversight and management of custodial staff for a specific region(s) of the campus. A Zone Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that staff are trained, assigned, supported, and assessed as they care for university facilities, assist in ongoing operations and events, and respond to weather and other emergencies. This is an essential position and is expected to be available in emergencies.

Essential Duties

Plans, coordinates, and assigns efficient and effective work schedules and other duties to employees, including supervising and approving staff time and attendance records.
Supervises and evaluates custodians 'performance of assigned duties and responsibilities through regular and random reviews of work assignments and techniques
In consultation with the Assistant Director, Facilities Operations identifies and addresses any job-related performance or behavioral concerns through coaching, counseling, or other means, maintaining appropriate records of all steps taken.
Regularly and frequently inspects buildings for cleanliness, needed repairs, and safety compliance and ensures that custodians also observe and report defects or deterioration in a timely manner using the system to enter new work order as required,
Supervises cleanup required during and following severe weather incidents, including snow removal from winter storms.
Supports essential University events and activities that often take place on weekends, including Commencement, Orientation, Move-in, Open Houses and other events.
Actively encourages a safe work environment by enforcing all safety rules and programs and identifying and reporting any safety concerns within the assigned zone.
Ensures that work orders assigned to the zone(s) are properly completed and updated in the system and prepares reports of work activities, including inspection logs and personnel records, as requested.
Reviews all upcoming events and event work orders for the zone(s) daily, communicating with applicable staff and departments regarding any special setup needs or other support that may be required
Remains current on procedures and practices and conducts onboarding training for new employees on custodial responsibilities that are unique to the zone(s), and ongoing training for all staff on the safe and proper use of current and new cleaning equipment, supplies and techniques.

Commitment to customer service when working with students, parents, faculty, staff, and guests on campus.
Ability to plan, organize, control, and direct all aspects of custodial responsibilities for all assigned facilities in the zone(s), ensuring a high level of productivity.
Must be accessible and available in the event of emergencies and weather events or when needed to meet the ongoing missions of the University
Must possess good oral and written communication skills to direct staff effectively and convey Facilities Operations leadership points. Ability to express ideas effectively and concisely is essential
Must possess skills in word processing and spreadsheets and be able to learn and use a work order management system that includes entering and closing work orders.
Ability to meet deadlines and make sound decisions sometimes under stress is required
Must be able to work safely around mechanical and/or electrical hazards, building materials, and chemicals.
The ability to uphold human dignity and respect by recognizing each person's worth, valuing diverse perspectives, and treating others with kindness, fairness, and empathy.
Must be able to respect, support and contribute to the University's Catholic and Jesuit mission.

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum Job Experience Requirements:

Three (3) consecutive years of supervisory experience is required. An equivalent combination of supervisory experience and education may also be considered (i.e., substituting higher education credits on a year-for-year basis, with 30 credit hours considered one year of college).
