Job description

Job Summary:

The Custodial Manager provides leadership and oversight for the College’s custodial operations, ensuring a safe, clean, sanitary, and welcoming environment for students, employees, and visitors. This position supervises and coordinates the daily activities of the custodial team, promotes high standards of cleanliness and customer service, and supports the College’s mission through effective planning, training, and operational excellence.

This position has direct supervision over the facilities specialists on the Sheridan Campus, Facilities Specialist’s Crew Leads, and Facility Specialist / Maintenance Tech.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct supervision, leadership, and support to the custodial staff, including scheduling, assigning work, monitoring performance, and conducting annual performance evaluations.
  • Coordinate custodial support and building setups for campus events, conferences, and special activities, ensuring timely and effective service.
  • Plan, organize, and facilitate regular staff meetings and training sessions focused on custodial best practices, safety procedures, chemical handling, equipment operation, and professional development.
  • Ensure all campus facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, sanitary, and aesthetically pleasing condition in accordance with College standards and applicable regulations.
  • Serve as the department's Safety Coordinator by promoting a culture of safety, ensuring compliance with OSHA and other applicable safety requirements, conducting safety training, and monitoring the proper use of chemicals, equipment, and personal protective equipment.
  • Participate in snow and ice removal operations by coordinating personnel, supervising response efforts, and working alongside custodial staff to ensure campus sidewalks, entrances, and other designated areas remain safe and accessible during winter weather events.
  • Inspect facilities regularly to ensure quality standards are met and identify areas requiring corrective action or additional attention.
  • Respond to facility emergencies and provide after-hours support as needed.
  • Assist with custodial duties during periods of increased workload, staffing shortages, or special projects.
  • Collaborate with Facilities and Campus Services leadership and other campus departments to support College operations and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Maintain inventory of custodial supplies and equipment, recommending purchases and ensuring resources are available to support daily operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of Facilities and Campus Services.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required by the Position:
  • Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, and team-building skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management abilities.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of modern custodial methods, cleaning equipment, chemicals, and industry best practices.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety regulations, OSHA standards, and safe chemical handling procedures.
  • Ability to train, coach, and evaluate employees while promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to prioritize work, solve problems, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computerized work order or maintenance management systems.
  • Commitment to providing exceptional customer service and maintaining positive working relationships with campus stakeholders.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies, participate in snow removal operations, and perform physical work in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to inspect facilities, maintain quality standards, and ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming campus environment.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
  • Some weekend and holiday work required
  • Responds to emergency calls on a 24 hours basis.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and climb ladders
Supervisory and Management Responsibility:

This position has direct supervision over the facilities specialists on the Sheridan Campus, Facilities Specialist’s Crew Leads, and Facility Specialist / Maintenance Tech.

Minimum Qualifications including education, experience, required licensures, certifications, and registrations:
  • GED, High School Diploma
  • Associate degree preferred
  • Five years' experience in custodial work
  • Five years' experience managing employees
