Job summary

The Garner Lab at The University of Texas at Austin seeks a reliable Zebrafish Research & Aquatics Specialist to support the operation of a research zebrafish facility. Responsibilities include routine husbandry, tank maintenance, water-quality monitoring, and support of zebrafish-based research.

Willingness to perform weekend/holiday duty, maintain records, and assist with genotyping and colony management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, marine science, aquaculture, animal science, engineering, or related field.
  • Master’s degree in a related field, or bachelor’s degree plus at least two years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain day-to-day health and operation of the laboratory zebrafish facility, including feeding, tank cleaning, and water-quality checks.
  • Set up crosses, collect embryos, maintain breeding records, and assist with colony planning and genotyping.
  • Ensure facility organization, inventory, safety compliance, and adherence to IACUC and other procedures.
