Job summary

BioHub is seeking an Aquaculture Lab Manager to lead day-to-day operations of its aquatic model-organism facility, supporting imaging Grand Challenge research with zebrafish and other species.

The role emphasizes hands-on management of water quality, recirculating systems, tank maintenance, and regulatory compliance, while mentoring junior staff and coordinating with researchers and platform teams.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience across aquaculture/lab operations with specialization in at least one area.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with researchers, vendors, and EH&S consultants.
  • Proven knowledge of aquaculture facility practices, including zebrafish husbandry.
  • Strong understanding of semi- to complex lab instruments and systems (RAS, water quality monitors).
  • Experience with animal welfare and biosafety for aquatic model organisms.
  • Advanced experience in single-focus lab operations and translating knowledge into actionable plans.
  • Typically 5–8 years in aquaculture, animal facility management, or lab operations.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and manages day-to-day operations of the aquaculture facility.
  • Coordinates resource requests for equipment, feed, and supplies.
  • Ensures readiness of water systems, tanks, filtration, and monitoring equipment.
  • Manages equipment moves, maintenance, and calibration to minimize downtime.
  • Develops EH&S solutions for aquaculture safety, monitoring compliance with standards.
  • Oversees service contracts for aquaculture equipment and reagents.
  • Collaborates with facilities on complex lab upgrades and maintenance.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and inspections on life-support systems.
  • Monitors compliance with EH&S protocols and implements improvements.
  • Translates research objectives into actionable husbandry and facility plans.
  • Mentors junior staff in aquaculture procedures and safety practices.
  • Documents SOPs and records for reproducibility and compliance.
