Job summary

HHMI/Janelia Research Campus is seeking an Aquatics Technician to maintain zebrafish and danionella colonies and support the Vivarium's research program. You will perform embryo care, crosses, and colony management to enable research advances.

Responsibilities include embryo microinjections, IVF, and screening, along with careful record-keeping and coordination with researchers. Ability to work independently in a collaborative lab environment is essential.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in life sciences or related field.
• Two years of experience with aquatic husbandry or lab animal care.
• Experience with transgenic colony management is a plus.
• Proficiency with embryo injection, fin clipping, and screening.
• Comfort using database systems for animal records.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain zebrafish and danionella colonies, including embryo care and breeding coordination.
• Perform reproductive techniques such as embryo microinjections and IVF.
• Conduct whole-animal screening and collect samples for PCR.
• Track stages of microinjection and handoffs to Aquatics staff and researchers.
• Maintain transgenic colony records and related data in systems.
• Communicate colony status and progress with researchers.
