Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students to boost academic success and improve attendance in elementary, middle, and/or high schools. They plan and monitor progress, collaborate with teachers on in-class supports, and help create a positive classroom environment.

Training is provided at the start of the year. They participate in extended day and after-school programs, with ongoing support for student development across literacy, math, and behavior.

Qualifications

• Experience not required; 2–4 weeks of training at start of year.
• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident (DACA not eligible).
• Ages 17–25 by July 1, 2025.
• GED or HS diploma, some college experience, or college degree.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students to earn academic success.
• Support teachers with classroom instruction and student activities.
• Monitor individual student progress and participate in data reviews.
• Create engaging, safe, and supportive classroom spaces with teachers.
• Lead extended day and after-school programs and clubs where appropriate.
