Job summary

Western Tidewater Community Service Board seeks a Licensed Eligible Youth SAIOP Clinician in Suffolk, VA to perform biopsychosocial assessments and develop treatment plans for adolescents within SAIOP.

You will provide group and individual counseling, collaborate with schools, families, and other agencies, and document in Credible EHR while ensuring DMAS/DBHDS compliance. Evening hours are required.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, or related human services field.
  • Licensed or license-eligible in Virginia (LPC, LCSW, LMFT); CSAC preferred.
  • Experience working with adolescents and/or substance use disorders preferred.
  • Knowledge of ASAM criteria and evidence-based practices (CBT, MI) preferred.
  • Ability to work afternoons/evenings to meet youth and family needs.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between service locations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial and substance use assessments for adolescents.
  • Develop individualized, person-centered treatment plans in alignment with ASAM criteria and agency standards.
  • Complete timely and accurate ISPs, reviews, and discharge planning.
  • Facilitate structured group counseling sessions (minimum 2x/week) using evidence-based approaches (CBT, MI, psychoeducation).
  • Provide individual and family counseling to support recovery and engagement.
  • Address co-occurring mental health and behavioral concerns.
  • Deliver SAIOP programming in clinic and school-based settings (e.g. Turlington Woods).
  • Support skill-building in relapse prevention, emotional regulation, and decision-making.
  • Monitor attendance, participation, and progress toward treatment goals.
  • Coordinate care with case managers, schools, families, probation officers, and referral sources (e.g., DJJ, FAPT).
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case staffing.
  • Engage families to support youth recovery and retention in services.
  • Complete BIRP notes, ISPs, and all required documentation in Credible EHR.
  • Ensure documentation meets DMAS, DBHDS, and regulatory standards for medical necessity.
  • Maintain productivity expectations and service delivery requirements.
  • Respond to crisis situations and provide appropriate intervention and referrals.
  • Utilize engagement strategies to retain youth in treatment.
  • Address barriers to participation, including transportation, family dynamics, and motivation.
