Job summary

Career Systems Development Corporation, through Job Corps in San Jose, seeks a Residential Advisor to supervise dormitory life and support socioeconomically disadvantaged youth on an evening shift (1:00pm–12:00am) due to responsibilities in the Safety and Security Department.

Responsibilities include coordinating social development activities, reporting to Center Management, and maintaining a safe, orderly living environment while modeling professional behavior.

Qualifications

• Minimum: High School Diploma or High School Equivalency and two years’ experience working with youth and young adults.
• Preferred: Previous Job Corps experience.
• Knowledge: Ability to effectively communicate with and relate to disadvantaged youths.
• Must be able to obtain a State driver’s license.
• Ability to obtain and maintain CPR/1st Aid & AED certification.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervises residential program and ensures that student needs are met in a timely professional manner.
• Demonstrates and abides by the Company Core Values and operating principles.
• Directs and plans for Social Development Department’s needs; manages activities of residential living.
• Conducts regular staff meetings and employee training sessions.
• Provides monthly and weekly activity reports to Center Management.
• Ensures orderly and clean living conditions in dormitories; promotes self-discipline and respect.
• Oversees social skills and student leadership sessions; provides guidance as appropriate.
• Assists students in handling special problems and collaborates with other departments as needed.
• Conducts regular audits of student Residential files and staff shift reports; provides feedback.
• Attends required staff training sessions.
• Facilitates prompt assistance to students in illness, injury or trauma.
• Interviews and selects staff; prepares and conducts performance evaluations.
