Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Western Territory is seeking a Residential Specialist for the Hilo Residential program. This full-time, non-exempt role supports Emergency shelter services for youth throughout the year, ensuring safety, compliance, and high-quality care during assigned shifts.

Responsibilities include intake, crisis intervention, activity planning, file upkeep, and coordinating with partner agencies to meet resident needs. Strong communication and crisis skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school graduate with 3 years of experience with juveniles or at-risk youth or related social service settings.
• Valid Hawaii driver’s license.
• Valid TB clearance & Pre employment medical clearances.
• Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
• DHS FBI/Criminal History & CAN cleared.
• Ability to drive a 10,000 GVW passenger van and meet Non-CDL driving qualification.
• Meets Salvation Army standards as an authorized driver.

Responsibilities

• Ensure up keep of facility to meet program and licensing standards.
• Provide intake assessment, crisis intervention, and act as single point of contact during after-hours.
• Schedule after-school group activities, weekends, holidays, and vacations.
• Maintain completeness of resident and program files; ensure program rules are followed.
• Monitor resident service contracts and coordinate with agencies involved.
• Transport residents to school, work, or appointments when needed.
• Complete required daily reports and maintain documentation.
• Supervise residents, volunteers, and staff; assist with intake/discharge processes.
• Facilitate meetings, fire drills, and documentation thereof.
• Serve as crisis counselor on duty and maintain professional staff relationships.
