Job summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a Residential Specialist for the Kona Emergency Shelter in Hilo, HI. This full-time, 40-hour-per-week position provides essential shelter services to youth and is supervised by the Program Manager.

The role requires a high school diploma with experience in youth services or an associates degree in human services, plus valid Hawaii driver’s license and required clearances. Training in crisis intervention and CPR/First Aid is needed.

Qualifications

• High school graduate with 3 years experience working with juveniles or at-risk youth, or Associates degree in human services with 2+ years in relevant settings.
• Valid Hawaii driver's license and required clearances for employment.
• First Aid/CPR certification and background clearances as per Salvation Army standards.

Responsibilities

• Ensure upkeep of facility to meet program and licensing standards.
• Provide screening, intake and assessment, crisis intervention for youth referred to the program.
• Schedule group activities for after school, weekends, holidays and vacations.
• Work varied shifts including day/evening/graveyard/weekends.
• Transport residents to school, work and appointments.
• Complete daily reports/consultations for each resident.
• Serve as crisis counselor on duty and maintain professional staff relationships.
