Job summary

The Office of Juvenile Affairs seeks a Recreational Activities Specialist to supervise athletic events and oversee recreation periods at the Central Oklahoma Juvenile Center in Tecumseh, Oklahoma.

This full-time role requires planning and directing leisure-time activities, promoting teamwork and discipline among youths, and coordinating equipment and facilities. Level I or II compensation reflects state pay scales and benefits.

Qualifications

• Level I: one year of experience in instructing/directing a community service or recreational program; or in closely related work.
• Level II: bachelor’s degree in physical education, recreation, recreational therapy, or a closely related field; or a bachelor’s degree and one year of experience in instructing/directing a community service or recreational program.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes and conducts leisure-time and physical education activities, prepares events and ensures equipment is in place.
• Directs group activities to develop teamwork, communication, and cooperation while maintaining order during recreation periods.
• Supervises, coaches and instructs indoor and outdoor team and athletic events.
• Teaches physical education, hygiene, sanitation and good personal habits.
• Assists in procurement and selection of athletic equipment and facilities for programs.
