Job summary

Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation is seeking a Part-Time Recreation Specialist I to support before/after school and summer programs. The role involves supervising staff, assisting with site operations, and coordinating events for youth across various community centers.

You will help with reporting, customer service, and program planning. Hours average around 32 per week, with potential early starts and late shifts, including occasional weekends.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in recreation management, therapeutic recreation, exercise science, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• May require a current and valid driver’s license; Commercial driver’s license may be required.
• Special scheduling requirements include evenings, weekends, holidays, and possible overtime.

Responsibilities

• Provide program assistance to Before School, After School, and Summer Activity Center staff.
• Supervise site operations and assist with staff training and development.
• Assist with reporting, planning events, and processing medication requests.
• Deliver high-quality customer service via phone, email, and in person.
