Job summary

City of Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation is seeking an Alpha I Recreation Program Supervisor to support and supervise multiple youth programs across schools and community centers. The role emphasizes teamwork, staff development, and strong customer service while coordinating with city teams.

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in recreation management (or related field) or equivalent experience, with a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in recreation management, therapeutic recreation, exercise science, or related field; or 4 years in a related role.
• May be required to have a current and valid driver’s license; CDL may be required.
• Must be available to work varied hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays; Alpha I designation requires job commitment during emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Provide support and supervision to multiple staff for school-age programs and community recreation centers.
• Assist with site supervision and promote teamwork across locations.
• Assist with staff training and development.
• Prepare weekly, monthly, and annual reports using Microsoft Office products.
• Serve on department and city teams to foster partnerships and collaborations.
• Coordinate planning and execution of unit events and partnerships.
• Deliver quality customer service via phone, email, and in person with strong communication.
• Maintain organization to multitask efficiently.
