Job summary

Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.ScheduleHours - Average scheduled hours up to 27 hours per week.The individual selected for this position will be housed at a primary site but may be scheduled between other park sites/facilities. Schedules will be adjusted seasonally and will vary weekly based on events, facility coverage, and weather. All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours, overtime, splits shifts or maybe be relocated to another location or job assignment in response to short- term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies including weekends, evenings and holidays.This position could provide direct childcare licensed by the State Licensing standards. Convictions of any barrier crime set forth in Virginia Code 63.2-1719 shall be automatic disqualification for employment for this position.Training StartersAs a condition of employment, all employees must attend P&R Connection (Department Orientation). If selected for the position, you will be provided an approximate training date at the time of hire. Training is held from 8:30am-5:00pm, every other Friday, at the Parks & Recreation Administration Building. High school or GED, plus three (3) months or at least four hundred (400) hours of related experience in such positions as teacher/substitute, coach, recreation program leader, camp counselor, youth leader, scout leader, or childcare provider, either in a paid or volunteer capacity or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Some Locations may require a current and valid driver’s license. At programs providing direct childcare, convictions of any barrier crime set forth in Virginia Code §63.2-1719 shall be an automatic disqualification for employment in this position. At childcare program locations licensed by the Virginia State Department of Social Services additional qualifications are determined by the current state standards and guidelines.
