Job summary

The City of Hopewell in Virginia is seeking a skilled Recreation Programs Supervisor to plan, implement, and evaluate diverse community programs across youth and senior divisions. You will supervise staff and volunteers, coordinate events, and manage the department’s operations and budget under limited supervision.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in recreation management (or related field) or equivalent experience, plus certifications and a valid Virginia driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in recreation management or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid driver’s license in Virginia.
• First Aid/ CPR/AED certification- Required. Must obtain within 6 months of hire.
• Certified Youth Sports Administrator/ Certified Sports Administrator - Required -Must obtain within 12 months of hire.
• Certified Parks and Recreation Professional - Preferred

Responsibilities

• Recruits, hires, trains, directs, supervises, evaluates, coaches, and disciplines division staff, volunteers, and contractors.
• Develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates recreation programs across divisions (Community, Athletics, Senior).
• Oversees daily division operations including purchases, payroll data, and equipment maintenance.
• Develops flyers and marketing materials to publicize programs and events.
• Manages database entries for programs/events, maintains records and reports on materials, supplies, and monetary activities.
• Prepares and controls division budget; researches grants and external funding; participates in fundraising.
• Acts as liaison between the City and the community.
