Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is seeking an Instructor for youth programs to foster positive relationships with children, support families, and deliver curriculum focused on skill mastery and belonging.

You will supervise groups, plan age-appropriate activities, engage parents as volunteers, attend trainings, and uphold safety, inclusivity, and program standards across indoor and outdoor settings.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completed semester units in CD, human services, or related fields preferred.
• Previous experience with school-age children in group settings preferred.
• Strong character values and communication skills essential.
• Current First Aid and CPR certifications within 60 days of hire.
• Completion of child abuse prevention training prior to first day.
• Y-USA Leader Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Nurture children through purposeful programming to build achievement and belonging.
• Maintain close visual supervision and follow ratios based on program.
• Use positive approaches to behavior management with natural and logical consequences.
• Engage parents as volunteers and connect them to the YMCA.
• Attend meetings, trainings, and family events; uphold safety and program standards.
• Follow YMCA policies on safety, supervision, emergencies, and reporting.
• Demonstrate the Six Pillars of Character and YMCA Core Values in all interactions.
