Job summary

Grand Street Settlement is seeking an Assistant Director for Wyckoff Gardens to oversee the NYCHA Community Center programs and staff, delivering high-quality youth programming across elementary to adult participants.

The role requires strong leadership, budget experience, and proven collaboration with education and community partners. Expect non-standard hours, school-year and summer shifts in Brooklyn, NY.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or equivalent of 5+ years in youth services; supervisory experience preferred.
• Familiarity with Brooklyn communities, key stakeholders and resources.
• Experience designing, planning, and implementing structured programs.
• 1+ years in supervising staff.
• 1+ years of budget, contract and grant management experience.
• Ability to work independently, assess priorities, and take initiative.
• High level of proficiency in administrative work.
• Capacity to thrive under pressure while working on multiple tasks and projects.
• Knowledge of the public education system and positive youth development best practices.
• Strong public speaking, writing and organizational skills.
• Team player with commitment to urban youth and LGBTQIA+-friendly environment.
• Experience partnering with DOE and community organizations.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct leadership and strategic direction to two program staff.
• Support orientation and evaluation of program staff for center-based after school, evenings, Saturdays and summer day camp.
• Supervise program staff under director guidance to meet goals and outcomes.
• Recruitment and retention strategies using the DYCD online report.
• Serve as liaison for school administration, parents and community entities.
• Mentor staff with ongoing coaching and monthly development.
• Facilitate bi-monthly team meetings and ensure proper execution.
• Set clear standards for quality youth development programming.
• Engage community residents and partners to support community needs.
• Advise on partnerships, securing new partners annually.
• Create quarterly community events, special events, and workshops.
• Assess programs quarterly to ensure community needs are met.
• Coordinate budget planning and grant management.
• Ensure facility maintenance and coordinate with NYCHA & DYCD.
