Job summary

City of Las Cruces is seeking a part-time Youth Program Specialist I to monitor participants across high school, middle school, and elementary levels during after-school and summer programs, helping to safely meet community recreation needs. The role involves organizing activities, promoting interest in social recreation and events, and coordinating tutoring with other staff.

A high school diploma and a 3 months of related experience are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus three months of recreation activity experience.
  • A combination of education, experience and training may be applied per City policy.
  • Position is part-time, non-exempt in Parks and Recreation.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor participants and create a fun atmosphere during after-school and summer activities.
  • Organize, promote and develop interest in social recreation and special events.
  • Cooperate with staff to conduct tutoring and educational activities.
  • Gather daily attendance, inventory and program records and reports.
  • Assist in planning and supervising a general recreation program at assigned sites.
  • Adhere to safety policies and report incidents promptly.
  • Administer first aid to injured children per established procedures.
  • Attend Standard First Aid and CPR training as scheduled.
  • Monitor facility safety and report disruption to supervisor.
  • Assist in fall and spring events.
