Job summary

The Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges is seeking a Group Leader to assist the Site Supervisor in running the School Age Before or After Care program. You will supervise children, lead activities, and help maintain a safe, caring environment in collaboration with staff and school partners.

Key responsibilities include ensuring child safety, implementing activities, supporting with snacks and homework, following health and licensing guidelines, and representing the YMCA positively at all times.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; college credits/degree preferred.
• Basic understanding of youth development principles.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with staff, parents and school staff.
• Ability to problem solve and take initiative aligned with YMCA mission.
• Experience leading group activities (1–3 years).
• First-Aid, CPR and AED certification may be required.
• Mantoux test and background check requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead and ensure the safety of all children by following supervision standards.
• Lead and support program activities including games, physical activities, snacks, and homework support.
• Follow First-Aid and emergency procedures; participate in safety drills.
• Use positive group management techniques and address behavior per YMCA policy.
• Build professional relationships with children, families and school personnel.
• Represent the YMCA positively and model appropriate behavior.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary environment; assist with snack setup/cleanup and handwashing.
• Ensure health and comfort of children, including diaper changes as needed.
• Adhere to health guidelines and Metro Y policies.
• Promote YMCA programs and events; assist with planning special events.
• Attend trainings and maintain required certifications.
