Job summary

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County (BGCMC) seeks an Impact Specialist I for the Monterey site to lead youth programs 6–14, focusing on academic success, literacy support and safe, engaging after-school activities.

You will report to the Site Supervisor, work at the Casanova Oak Knoll Park Center, and collaborate with families, teachers and volunteers to promote high school readiness and project-based learning.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Education or related field or equivalent experience.

• Tech-savvy with AI, Microsoft Office, Google Suite and Internet for productivity.

Job description

Title: Impact Specialist, Monterey-Full Time

Work Schedule: Full-time, non-exempt; generally to be scheduled between 8 am – 7 pm, Monday – Friday with occasional later evening and weekend responsibilities.

Reports to: Site Supervisor, Monterey

Location: Casanova Oak Knoll Park Center 735 Ramona Ave., Monterey, CA

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Site Supervisor, Monterey, the Impact Specialist I drives youth success through outstanding, Mission-driven and integrity-centered leadership at the Monterey site. S/he accomplishes this by engaging, age-appropriate and outcome-driven programs serving youth ages 6-14. S/he accomplishes this by engaging youth in age-appropriate and outcome-driven programs with specialized focus on academic success, literacy support and intervention. This includes ensuring a safe, positive, fun and impactful Clubhouse environment that engages hundreds of diverse youth to ultimately achieve on-time grade progression, high school graduation, college/ postsecondary readiness and education leading to a livable wage career, healthy lifestyle and engaged citizenship. The Impact Specialist I’s primary work location is the Boys & Girls Club administrative office in Seaside and the Casanova Oak Knoll Park Center in the afternoons.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Youth Success

• Serve as role model to youth exemplifying the pillars of Good Character & Citizenship
• Serve as a mentor to guide youth through personal and educational challenges
• Foster a safe, positive, fun and impactful program where participants acquire a sense of belonging, competence, usefulness, power and influence
• Demonstrate integrity, sound judgment, respect for others, and a strong commitment to the positive development and well-being of youth
• Model appropriate behavior, professionalism, responsibility, and respectful communication at all times
• Implement daily after-school activities that are developmentally appropriate and engaging for youth ages 6-14
• Deliver school day programming in Monterey Bay area schools
• Foster a safe, positive, fun, and impactful Club environment where 75-100 youth attend daily
• Provide homework support for elementary and middle school youth
• Assist with facilitation of college, career preparation, and life skills workshops including college tours
• Support monthly case management for youth 11-14 years old
• Demonstrate mastery of classroom management
• Address youth behavior with a positive discipline approach that is fair, firm, consistent and kind
• Support a culture of high expectations and frequent recognition of youth for their efforts and achievements
• Implement Club program goals, activities, and schedules
• Support membership enrollment and track program attendance
• Support recruitment strategies to grow Club participation to meet program goals
• Ensure program environment is safe and inviting for all participants

Program Staff Supervision and Development

• Work collaboratively with the Site Supervisor in hiring, training, and managing Youth Development Professionals and Volunteers
• Supervise and manage the work performance of direct reports
• Plans and facilitates training and promotes professional development

Program Development & Public Relations

• Implement daily activities to ensure alignment with organizational goals, efficiency standards, and quality specifications
• Support membership enrollment and track program attendance
• Engage parents to support youth success
• Support team on special event planning and execution in coordination with Operations
• Identify any safety, maintenance, and technology issues to supervisor and the Operations Department
• Work with teachers/staff/liaisons as needed to support program efforts
• Understand and comply with formal agreements (Memorandum of Understanding) with city and district partners
• Assist with marketing programs to the Monterey Bay community
• Maintains safety and order of program, including field trips and youth services delivered at non-BGCMC locations as well as compliance to policy and standard operating procedures
• Adhere to safety policies and procedures determined by each site location
• Assist with maintaining inventory, ensure equipment/supplies are in good working order and stewarded for intended use

Collateral Duties

• Provide support as assigned to other departments and/or sites
• Performs other duties as assigned in alignment with fulfilling primary function of position

Requirements

Education & Experience:

• Four-year degree from an accredited college or university in Education or related field, or equivalent experience
• Minimum of three years experience in youth development
• Tech savvy, including proficiency in utilizing AI, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and Internet for maximum productivity
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Must have reliable transportation

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• The ability to lift up to 25 lbs
• The ability to bend, lift, stretch
• Willingness to occasional travel to various locations in Monterey County to provide program services
• The ability to remain in stationary position including standing or sitting for up to 25% of shift

Highly desirable qualifications:

• Bi-lingual and biliterate in English and Spanish
• Connectedness and experience working and living in the Monterey Peninsula
• Experience as a youth development professional in the Boys & Girls Club Movement
• Cultural competence, ability to work with a diverse youth and people
• First Aid & CPR Certification

COMPENSATION:

Salary range begins at $23.00 to $24.16 per hour. Paid benefits package including paid vacation, paid sick leave, plus paid California Healthy Workplace Healthy Family sick leave, medical, vision, dental, life and disability insurance, pension and 403(b) plan investment options. Professional development opportunities are available contingent upon funding and approval. This position is classified as non-exempt and as such is eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
