Job summary

Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians is seeking a Youth Worker to support the Youth Intervention Specialist and Tribal staff in delivering a youth program aligned with Life Long Learning directives.

Youth activities and meals for youth aged 5–19 will be provided. The role emphasizes confidentiality, positive role modeling, and collaboration with tribal programs. It is a 20-hour-per-week position with flexible scheduling based on activities and supervision needs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Some experience working with youth preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with patience and respect.
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Office.
  • Basic math and 10-key proficiency.
  • Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with Native Americans and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Work a flexible 20-hour week.
  • Comply with GTB policies & procedures including the GTB Children's Code.
  • Maintain confidentiality of participants.
  • Collaborate with Tribal programs, local, state and federal agencies.
  • Maintain 1:5 off-site & 1:10 on-site youth supervision ratios.
  • Attend training if necessary.
  • Recruit youth ages 5-19 in coordination with Youth Services Program staff.
  • Serve as a positive role model for Native American youth.
  • Assist with meals and snacks.
  • Arrange van pick up of participants as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that relate to service delivery.
