Job summary

The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians seeks a Part-Time/Temporary Student Services Assistant to support the Youth Services Coordinator in delivering services to Native American youth from preschool through 12th grade.

You will reinforce learning, assist with homework, and help run cultural, recreational, and prevention activities in alignment with the Youth Education and Activities Program. You will work with students, families, and teachers, organize supplies, and maintain records of

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent required.
Associate degree, Trade, or Technical Certified in Education preferred.
Minimum of one-year experience working with youth required.
Background check required. Chauffeur’s License within 60 days of hire. Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Tribe’s Insurance Dept.

Responsibilities

Assist with developing program activities and recruitment of participants.
Participate in Youth Education and Activities (YEA) program activities and supervise groups.
Monitor participants and enforce program policies and procedures.
Teach rules, techniques and skills of educational, cultural, and recreational activities.
Help establish and complete goals aligned with YEA program goals.
Assist with recruitment and organization of the Tribal Youth Council.
Organize supplies/resources and maintain facility per policy.
Maintain records on participation, subjects, communications with parents/teachers, and progress.
Provide practice tools and guidance to reinforce classroom material.
Keep program van clean and report vehicle maintenance needs.
Transport program participants in company vehicles.
Assist in providing incentive and recognition activities for students.
