Job summary

Volunteers of America Colorado is seeking a Peer Support Specialist to support youth (18-24) experiencing homelessness, addiction or mental health concerns. The role emphasizes recovery, advocacy, and connecting participants to housing resources and health services.

Based at the Bannock Youth and Family Center in Denver, the position involves travel to service locations, collaboration with partners, and delivering life skills training while maintaining trauma-informed care and client-centered

Qualifications

• Must have maintained recovery from individually identified conditions for a period of at least one year.
• Lived experience of homelessness as a young adult/youth and in-depth knowledge of mental health/substance use.
• Colorado driver’s license and state-mandated automobile insurance.

Responsibilities

• Ensure that the participant’s voice is heard and incorporated in programming with a trauma informed lens.
• Work with Youth Transitions Project staff, youth service providers and partners to provide community housing resources and advocate for client housing needs.
• Peer Specialists initiate contact with participants and connect individuals to housing resources and health services.
• Follow up post-housing to check stability and recovery progress and organize group activities.
• Lead life skills classes with youth enrolled in services.
• Collaborate with case managers and program staff to foster positive housing and behavioral health outcomes.
