Job summary

Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Illinois is seeking a Youth Mentor in Springfield to support teachers and activity specialists, supervise participants, and assist with homework and program activities. You will model positive behavior and mentor youth across diverse program offerings.

You will help implement programs, monitor conduct, and identify new activities while coordinating with site leadership to promote student engagement and safety.

Qualifications

• Must be 15 years of age.
• As a Youth Mentor for Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Illinois, you will be required to complete a membership application for the club as part of your hiring packet.
• Education is important to us as the youth that you will be working with; grades will be monitored along with all other students.
• Knowledge of youth development; ability to motivate and provide guidance to youth through establishing positive relationships with youth participants; demonstrate caring and respect toward participants.
• Ability to relate to the general public, parents and B&GCS participants in a friendly, positive, and professional manner. Demonstrated ability to convey B&GCS policies and procedures to participants, and to implement appropriate guidance and discipline policies.
• Ability to organize and supervise participants to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrate enthusiasm, energy and commitment in personal contact with participants, parents, supervisors and the general public.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers in classroom setting, including one on one work with students.
• Focuses on participants’ personal development through diverse program offerings, with a focus on increasing their interests and attendance, program participation, knowledge and abilities.
• Assist program assistant and teacher with implementation of programs and activities as directed by site director.
• Implements guidance and discipline policies. Communicates and maintains standards of conduct for program participants.
• Promotes and stimulates the project participant’s knowledge of and interest in Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Illinois programs and activities.
• Represents the organization and interprets its policies, objectives, standards and programs to project participants, parents, community organizations and the public.
