Job summary

Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation in Brooklyn, NY is seeking a part-time GED Instructor to support YouthBuild IGNITE within the Career and Education Programs. You will provide individualized tutoring, mentor students, and collaborate with YouthBuild staff to address attendance and learning barriers, while maintaining records and fostering a positive

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Adult Education, or a related field required.
• Teaching certification preferred, with focus on adult/secondary education.
• Experience teaching at-risk youth or in non-traditional settings preferred.
• Clear understanding of GED exam structure and requirements.
• Excellent communication, classroom management, and motivational skills.
• Ability to build rapport with diverse students.
• Patience, empathy and passion for helping youth achieve goals.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver engaging GED lesson plans aligned with test standards.
• Teach Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and RLA to diverse learners.
• Assess student needs and tailor instruction to address gaps.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personalized academic guidance.
• Mentor students and support attendance, behavior and motivation.
• Maintain student records and adapt lessons based on data.
• Prepare students for the GED Readiness Test and official exam.
• Collaborate with YouthBuild staff to provide holistic support.
