Job summary

Harford County Public Schools is seeking Youth Apprenticeship participants for the Central Office – Food and Nutrition team. These apprenticeships provide hands-on kitchen experience while earning and completing the program hours this summer and beyond.

The role develops cross-training in various kitchen operations, with guidance from experienced staff. Ideal youth candidates are 11th- or 12th-grade students planning to continue through the school year.

Qualifications

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Satisfactory completion of basic sanitation course (F&N to provide).
• Meets health department personal hygiene standards.
• Physically able to perform essential functions including lifting up to 40 pounds.
• Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation of all food under the direction of the manager or cook.
• Washes, sanitizes and air dries worktables, dining room tables, pots, pans, dishes, serving utensils and flatware.
• Dismantles, washes and air dries serving areas.
• Serves breakfast and/or lunch.
• Assists in proper storage of deliveries and leftovers.
• Maintains pleasant working relations with students, faculty, staff and parents.
• Attends training classes and staff meetings.
• Operates equipment such as convection ovens, combi ovens, steamers, mixers and develops knife skills.
• Complete and maintain inventories on food, equipment, and supplies.
• Assist in planning and participates in meal promotions.
