Youth Development Professional (Program Coordinator)

Location: The Salvation Army Bellwood

About this opportunity:

Plans, implements, supervises members, and evaluates activities within a specific program area, supporting the Boys & Girls Club's priority outcomes of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character and Citizenship. May oversee special programs and events (e.g., Keystone, Youth of the Year, Awards Programs) and participate in other unit activities as needed. In the absence of the Program Coordinator, may supervise other Youth Development Professionals to ensure continuity of services. Builds and maintains professional relationships with all Club members and their families to promote the mission of The Salvation Army.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Promote and encourage program participation.
  2. Assist with registration of new members and conduct their orientation.
  3. Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
  4. Implement and manage programs, services, and activities effectively.
  5. Oversee special programs such as Youth of the Year or Youth of the Month.
  6. Monitor and evaluate programs to ensure safety, quality, and proper appearance of the branch.
  7. Prepare periodic activity reports.
  8. Assist with outreach efforts to increase membership and participation.
  9. Participate in special programs and events.
  10. May be required to drive the Club vehicle.
  11. Conserve Salvation Army resources.
  12. Follow all Salvation Army policies and procedures.
  13. Support the mission of The Salvation Army in any capacity needed.
  14. Supervise other Youth Development Professionals in the absence of the Program Coordinator.

Qualifications:

  1. Valid State Driver’s License.
  2. High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  3. Experience working with children and youth preferred.
  4. Commitment to professional development, including Level II & Level III training and 20 credit hours of Boys & Girls Club of America Spillett Training.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to handle stressful situations, follow emergency procedures, multi-task, and complete tasks safely and effectively. Ability to interact positively with co-workers and the public, meet attendance requirements, and communicate effectively in English. Duties involve sitting, standing, and walking frequently.
