Job summary

YMCA of Greater Kansas City is seeking a Youth Development Leader for the Y Club before and after school program in Kansas. You will lead a group of elementary children through activities, homework help, and games, creating a safe, positive space where kids can thrive.

The role offers flexible mornings and/or afternoons with part-time hours, a starting pay of $15.50 per hour, and opportunities for growth and ongoing training within a supportive team.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent required at Kansas sites.
• One year or more of college preferred.
• Previous experience working with school-age children is a plus.
• Works effectively with people from varied backgrounds and abilities; energetic and alert.
• Able to actively engage with and supervise children in indoor/outdoor activities.
• General understanding of computer technology.
• Tuberculosis Test Risk Assessment and State Health Assessment form within 30 days (in MO).

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise your own group of elementary-aged children, knowing where every child in your group is at all times.
• Plan and run fun, engaging activities - crafts, games, sports, homework help, and more.
• Keep kids safe by teaching and enforcing safety rules and responding quickly and appropriately in emergencies.
• Guide behavior by teaching and redirecting rather than scolding, treating every child with dignity and respect.
• Verify photo ID before releasing children at pickup until you personally know each authorized adult.
• Build positive relationships with kids, families, school staff, and YMCA teammates.
• Be dependable for scheduled shifts, follow YMCA, licensing, and school district policies, and keep spaces clean and organized.
