Job summary

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area is seeking a part-time Youth Development Professional to support after-school enrichment for youth ages 5-18. You will prepare materials, lead activities, and work with youth individually or in groups to promote mental, physical, and social development.

You will assist with homework during Power Hour, reinforce positive behavior, and maintain attendance records while upholding safety and program guidelines.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must pass background check, reference check, and drug test
  • Associate degree in education or related field preferred
  • At least one year of relevant experience in an educational or childcare setting with a preferred age of 5-18
  • Spanish speaking preferred
  • Exemplary written and spoken communication skills
  • Demonstrates dependability, accountability, and cooperation
  • Associate's level degree or higher in education or another related field (preferred)
  • Strong communication skills to interact with children, parents, and staff members
  • Knowledge of childhood development principles and best practices
  • Ability to adapt to the needs of individual children and create a supportive environment
  • Previous experience working with children or youth in a professional setting (e.g., Christian counseling, babysitting, early childhood education, sports coaching, tutoring, daycare)
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in the well‑being of children
  • Spanish or other second language
  • Preferred ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Preferred ability to work in various weather conditions—hot, cold, rainy, etc
  • Preferred ability to meet physical demands of working with youth
  • Preferred ability to move equipment up to 25 pounds
  • Preferred ability to endure periodically noisy environments (in the context of working with youth)
  • Preferred ability to have adequate vision and hearing to ensure the safety of club youth

Responsibilities

  • Prepare materials for programming
  • Lead activities designed to foster students’ mental, physical, and social development
  • Work with youth individually or in groups to facilitate programming
  • Encourage and support the development of social skills, self-esteem, and character building
  • Assist with homework during daily “Power Hour”
  • Provide feedback to club youth using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, or build confidence
  • Enforce organization rules and policies
  • Maintain a professional and role‑model persona
  • Check in and/or out youth attending club adhering to procedures
  • Takes daily class attendance and maintain accurate records
  • Supervise youth in various settings including classrooms, cafeteria, playground, multipurpose rooms, and field trips
  • Be responsible for cleaning and maintaining the club area
  • Prepare and serve preplanned meals and snacks according to guidelines
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as prescribed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Maintain close daily contact with club staff and members to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instruction
  • Maintain contact with external community groups, school administration, members’ parents and others
