Job summary

YMCA of Western North Carolina is seeking a Youth Development Lead in Hendersonville, NC to supervise children, assist in planning activities, and support curriculum for paid programs in the Youth Development Center. You will ensure safety and a fun environment, maintain supervision, and participate in program planning and staff training.

18+ with a high school diploma and CPR certification within 90 days are required, along with prior childcare experience and YMCA Leader Certification or plan

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• High School diploma or GED required.
• CPR certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
• Experience in childcare settings with group management, arts/crafts, and games.
• Ability to supervise children ages 6 weeks to 12 years.
• YMCA Leader Certification required (or complete within 30 days).

Responsibilities

• Greets members and children enthusiastically; learn the names of children and parents.
• Performs check-in and check-out duties and procedures.
• Exhibits honesty, caring, respect, responsibility, reliability, flexibility, maturity, and good decision-making.
• Maintains professional demeanor and a positive attitude at all times.
• Engages with children during each shift.
• Familiarizes with program offerings and refers members to supervisors as needed.
• Carries out organized activities 1–2 times a week (crafts, imaginative play, exercise).
• Participates in staff orientation for new Youth Development Center staff.
• Attends required training, meetings, and program development activities.
• Provides on-site leadership during shifts and supports staff.
