Job summary

YMCA of the Triangle in Raleigh, NC is seeking a Youth Counselor to lead and support youth participants in the program. You will build relationships, supervise activities, and help create a safe, engaging environment consistent with YMCA values.

The role emphasizes relationship-building with youth, parents, and staff, plus adherence to policies, attendance at trainings, and collaboration with community organizations.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Experience with children or teens preferred but not required.
• Experience in outdoor education, planning activities, crafts, songs/music or sports is desirable.
• Specific certifications and/or training may be required.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people.
• Multilingual preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and builds relationships with a group of elementary and/or middle school students.
• Implements program activities that are culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate.
• Creates a fun, safe, friendly, and challenging atmosphere.
• Mentors and models responsible behavior with youth participants.
• Facilitates relationship-building and maintains positive relations with campers, parents, staff, and YMCA personnel.
• Adheres to YMCA policies, including safety, emergency management, and child protection.
• Keeps space and equipment clean and well-maintained daily.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings.
• Develops collaborative relationships with community organizations.
