Job summary

YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a part-time Youth Development Counselor for Before/After School Programs in Katy ISD, Conroe ISD, and Humble ISD. Earn a temporary $3.00 per hour stipend in addition to base pay, with opportunities to mentor and inspire children daily.

You’ll design age-appropriate activities, supervise groups, and ensure a safe, inclusive environment while building strong partnerships with families and staff. Flexible afternoon hours support ISD calendars.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention training (or willingness to obtain).
• Six months of experience working with youth in a licensed facility, school, church, or similar setting.
• Ability to plan and lead age-appropriate activities.
• Ability to pass state/local background checks and fingerprinting.
• TB test and any required immunizations per state/local guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Keep children safe, engaged, and accounted for at all times using YMCA policies.
• Foster a welcoming environment with positive behavior-management techniques.
• Lead games, projects, and hands-on learning aligned with the YMCA curriculum.
• Demonstrate YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, and faith.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe program space meeting standards.
• Build strong relationships with children, families, school staff, and YMCA team.
• Follow child-protection policies and supervise all program areas.
