Job summary

YMCA of Greater New York is seeking an Assistant Teacher at West Side YMCA in New York, NY. You will support the Head Group Teacher with lesson plans, classroom activities, and family engagement while ensuring a safe, inclusive learning space.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, preferably a Teacher Assistant certificate, and at least two years of experience with young children. Expect teamwork, policy adherence, and ongoing trainings.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; study plan acceptable.
• Teacher Assistant certificate preferred.
• Minimum of two years of experience with young children.
• Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.

Responsibilities

• Ensure health, safety, and well-being of children with close supervision.
• Assist teachers with developmentally appropriate lessons and activities.
• Guide students in their academic growth.
• Communicate with parents/guardians and families.
• Maintain a clean, safe classroom and report hazards.
• Prepare food and maintain family-style meals.
• Maintain documentation: attendance, incidents, growth forms.
• Maintain equipment and inventory.
• Follow health and education guidelines.
• Participate in meetings and trainings.
