Job summary

Jefferson County in Texas seeks a detention supervision professional for same-sex juvenile housing. The role assists in supervising juveniles, maintains a safe, secure environment, and meets detainee needs during shifts.

Responsibilities include intake, issuing clothing and supplies, preparing for court, overseeing programs, and ensuring daily paperwork and handovers are completed; must be available to work all shifts, including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of college toward completion of a degree in behavioral sciences, sociology, criminal justice or related field; Bachelor's Degree preferred; 6 months to 1 year of on-the-job training and/or previous related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-going supervision and hourly checks of same sex juveniles.
• Observe behavior to detect security, safety, emotional and/or medical problems; report issues.
• Counsel with juveniles as appropriate; conduct intake for same sex juveniles.
• Prepare juveniles for court, hearings, and other appointments; check out detainees upon release.
• Implement and oversee academic and recreational programs; intervene to break up altercations.
• Conduct pat searches; perform room checks; manage control room calls as assigned.
• Maintain safety and security of facility; report maintenance problems; ensure cleanliness.
• Complete required paperwork at end of each shift; attend daily shift change meetings.
