Job summary

Lubbock County seeks a detention officer to direct activities of same-sex detained youth across programming and to perform admission and screening duties as needed.

The role requires maintaining a safe environment, supervising residents, mediating conflicts, and documenting daily activity. The officer will assist in program direction, handle medications per policy, and respond to crises with composure and clarity.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of procedures for detention facilities and safety protocols.
• Ability to communicate clearly with youth, staff, and supervisors.
• Ability to stay calm and make informed decisions under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe and secure environment for all residents.
• Monitor group dynamics to prevent fighting and escape attempts.
• Mediate disagreements between residents in a constructive manner.
• Supervise residents at all times.
• Provide transportation, when necessary, for residents to hospitals, doctors, The Bridge, and other facilities or activities.
• Submit written reports for court as required.
• Inspect mail for contraband and open mail in front of residents.
• Maintain daily documentation and logs reflecting behavior and participation.
