Qualifications

  • Read, write, speak and comprehend English.
  • High School Diploma or GED and must be at least 21 years old.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain a Basic Jailer’s License Certificate from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).

Responsibilities

  • Care, custody and control of the inmates.
  • Admit and release inmates; fingerprints; remove personal property; conduct searches; verify medical information.
  • Communicate with professionals and the public regarding inmates.
  • Perform security checks and document inmate actions; investigate suspicious activities.
  • Ensure sanitary conditions per policy and Texas minimum jail standards.
  • Distribute supplies, food, medication and other necessities to inmates.
  • Supervise visitations; document daily activities; maintain maintenance logs.
  • Handle disciplinary problems; restrain violent and suicidal inmates; respond to medical emergencies.
  • Serve meals per policy and Texas standards.
  • Create and maintain records and logs on the computer.
  • Maintain supplies and inventory; transport inmates to court.
  • Attend in-service schools and training.
  • Other duties as assigned.
