Job summary

Lubbock County seeks a detention officer to direct activities of detained youth across all programs and to perform admission and screening duties as needed. The role ensures a safe, secure environment and timely daily operations.

The officer will monitor group dynamics, mediate conflicts, supervise residents, and assist in the development of approved programs in academics, arts and crafts, recreation, life skills, and group discussions, while maintaining thorough records.

Qualifications

• NCIC/TCIC employment guidelines must be met.
• Must possess good moral character.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must be emotionally suited for working with children.
• Preference given to applicants with bachelor’s degrees.
• Applicant must possess a valid Texas Driver License and reliable automobile with liability insurance.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe and secure environment for all residents.
• Monitor group dynamics to prevent fighting and escape attempts.
• Mediate disagreements between residents in a constructive manner.
• Supervise residents at all times.
• Assist in development and direction of approved programs in academics, arts and crafts, recreation, life skills, and group discussions.
• Follow departmental procedure in administering and recording medications for residents.
