CASES seeks a Youth Coach to support NYC youth in community settings, with in-office reporting at 4 West 125th Street. The role requires building relationships, goal setting, and coordinating with schools and agencies to create pathways to success.

Youth communication, career development, and trauma-informed practices guide daily work. Flexible hours, travel across NYC boroughs, and a 2-year commitment are expected.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of experience working with young people; OR
• An Associate or other accredited vocational degree, and 3+ years of experience working with young people; OR
• A “credible messenger” with some post-secondary experience and 4+ years of professional work with youth.
• Lived experience is a major plus; evening and weekend hours may be required.

Responsibilities

• Build relationships with up to 10-15 young people, using creative approaches to engage them.
• Collaborate with the youths’ key adults (parents, school staff, foster parents, agency staff) to support goals.
• Help youth explore interests and connect to opportunities aligned with their goals.
• Work 1:1 with youth to develop academic and career goals and take measurable steps.
• Connect youth to quality schools, programs, and resources supporting their goals.
• Support youth in persisting academically/career-wise, addressing challenges and planning next steps.

Job Title: Youth Coach

Job Summary:

CASES' youth programs aim to help New York City's systems-impacted young people, aged 13-24, to lead productive lives. Our approach is distinguished by individualized case management, evidence-based programming, and group activities that build positive peer associations. For many, this is the first time in their lives that they are participating in activities that help them set personal goals and develop the skills they need to reach them.

This program will provide continued education support to middle- and high-school aged (13+) youth, and young adults in post-secondary learning or career environments, while simultaneously providing emotional support, establishing career development goals, and assisting with life skills development.

Salary: The salary for this role is $60,100 per year.

Shift Hours: This position is full-time Monday-Friday 10am-6pm with flexibility required to be responsive to youth needs (occasionally accompanying to school in AM, picking up phone calls in PM, etc.)

Location Address: Work will be conducted in the community (primarily Manhattan and the Bronx, and across NYC) with in-office reporting responsibilities at 4 West 125th Street. Some travel across CASES offices will be expected for trainings, department meetings, etc.

Workplace Flexibility: Flexible (for roles that have days that can be partially remote, e.g., being able to draft notes at home after going to the office/community in the morning). Travel is expected throughout the assigned borough or to where participant is – feels safest - and a minimum of 80% of the client contact will be in the community

What you will be doing:

• Build relationships with up to 10-15 young people. Coaches employ creative, out-of-the box approaches to engaging youth and do not give up if they are not responsive.
• Build relationships and collaborate with the key adults in the young person’s life to support their goals and well-being, including other agency staff (e.g., Case Planners and Specialists), foster parents, school/program staff, and other significant adult figures.
• Help young people explore their interests and expose them to opportunities in line with their interests.
• Work 1:1 with young people to develop individualized academic and career development goals based on their interests/strengths and take measurable steps towards their goals.
• Connect young people to quality schools, programs, resources, and opportunities in line with their goals.
• Help young people persist in academic/career settings, navigate any challenges that arise, celebrate successes, and plan/prepare for the next step on their journey.
• Connect young people to peer group supports and build positive relationships.
• Use an online platform each week to track contacts, young people’s goals, steps taken towards goals, and other key data. Full support will be provided on how to use Care4 database.
• Participate in weekly staff meetings.

What we are looking for:

• A Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of experience working with young people; OR
• An Associate or other accredited vocational degree, and 3+ years of experience working with young people; OR
• A “credible messenger” (has a background in foster care, criminal legal system, or other systems-involvement), with some post-secondary experience (e.g., some college), with significant experience (4+ years) working with young people in a professional, paid role.
• Lived experience is a major plus!
• Ability to work some evening and weekend hours is expected.

Physical Requirement(s):

• Ability to participate in in-person and virtual Teams meetings (cubicle, office, and conference room settings)
• Ability to meet youth in their homes and schools (sometimes involving walking up several flights of stairs)
• Ability to accompany youth to school, to DMV or IDNYC appointments, etc. by walking or via public transit
• Ability to accompany youth on outings to cultural institutions, movie screenings, colleges, etc. via public transit or passenger van
• Ability to travel across NYC boroughs in one work day
