Job summary

U.S. Coast Guard in Kodiak, AK is hiring a Supervisory Recreation Specialist for Youth Services. The position oversees the Teen Center, plans year-round activities, and ensures a safe, engaging environment for youth programs.

The role involves budgeting, supervising staff, and coordinating community partnerships. The incumbent will lead developmentally appropriate recreational activities, manage resources, and work flexible hours including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• CPR and First Aid certifications must be current or obtained within 6 months of employment.
• Child protective background clearance required after hire; continued employment contingent on favorable background check.
• At least 2 years of experience in youth programs (5th–12th grade) or middle/high school teaching, with at least 1 year Supervisory experience.
• Experience using social media platforms and the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Lead Youth Center operations to ensure a safe, healthy environment for youth programs and facilities.
• Develop and manage budgets (APF/NAF/grants) and analyze programs to meet community needs.
• Plan and run year-round youth sports, recreation, social, and educational activities.
• Coordinate events and programs, including Keystone, Torch Club, and Military Youth of the Year.
• Supervise and train staff and volunteers; handle performance and disciplinary actions as needed.
