Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking staff to assist with supervising children in the Childwatch program, ensuring safety, and promoting the YMCA five core values. The role supports parents while they participate in other activities and emphasizes developmentally appropriate play and care.

Responsibilities include supervising children, addressing needs, assisting with snacks and first aid, maintaining clean spaces, and reporting incidents as required.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, interpret, and teach safety rules and manuals.
• Ability to write routine notes and reports.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of children, parents, staff, YMCA members.

Responsibilities

• Promotes YMCA values in activities.
• Supervise children to ensure safety.
• Attend to children's needs individually and in groups.
• Engage children in developmentally appropriate games and learning.
• Provide for physical needs including snacks, first aid, and diaper changes.
• Provide for emotional needs including soothing distressed children and redirecting behavior.
• Ensure play areas and supplies are safe, clean, organized, and well maintained.
• Report concerns to supervisor and document incidents as required.
• Follow boundaries with each child and maintain secure environments.
• Meet timelines for time sheets and compliance.
• Attend mandatory trainings and meetings.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
